Photography traded for a campervan or a stay in Iceland

We are driving Iceland's Ring Road in October 2026 and we will photograph a campervan fleet, a guesthouse or a tour operator in exchange for the rental or the stay rather than a fee. A half day shoot around your lot and on the road, plus thirty to fifty edited photographs for your site and your socials, delivered within two weeks of our return.

Why Iceland, and why October

We are driving Iceland's Ring Road for four days in October, chasing the northern lights and the last of the fall light. Photography has taken us through a lot of small operators who run great trips with not much time left over for marketing. This page is for anyone open to a trade: a real shoot for real use, in exchange for a hand with the trip.

What we are looking for there

One trade is enough to make the trip work, and we would rather agree it early.

  • A campervan rental with a vehicle standing idle in October, ideally with a diesel heater and pickup at Keflavik.
  • A guesthouse or small hotel anywhere on the Ring Road that wants photographs before the winter season.
  • A tour operator running northern lights or glacier departures who has two places going unsold.
  • A restaurant in Reykjavik with a room worth photographing on a dark afternoon.

What photographing Iceland in October actually involves

October in Iceland gives about nine hours of usable light, and most of it is the low, sideways kind that photographs better than midday ever does anywhere. The golden hour lasts most of the morning. It also means weather that changes inside an hour, roads that close, and a real chance of aurora on a clear night, which is why we are coming then rather than in summer. We plan the shoot list around the light and the forecast rather than a fixed schedule, and we say so up front: an October trade is agreed as a shoot within a window, not at a fixed hour on a fixed day.

Questions from Icelandic operators

Why should we give away a rental in October?

Because in October a vehicle standing on your lot earns nothing, and the photographs you get back are usable for every season that follows. If your October is fully booked, this trade is not for you and we would rather know now.

Will you photograph in the dark?

Some of it, deliberately. Interiors and the aurora both happen in the dark, and a campervan photographed under the northern lights is the single most useful frame an Icelandic rental can own. The daylight work happens in the nine hours we get.

What do you need from us practically?

Confirmed pickup and drop off at Keflavik, a diesel heater given the month, and a written agreement on the trade before we book flights. Everything else we bring.

If you run something in Iceland

Tell us what you have and what you would want photographed. The trip is in October 2026 and we agree trades in writing before we fly.
